American Celebration on Parade

Roadside attractions. Is there anything more endearing?

I’ve decided that there isn’t.

Where else can you see a family of giant bunnies sporting traditional dress, posing like they’re part of Madonna’s Vogue music video if only it was shot in the 1800’s English countryside? Particle board train cabooses with secret doorways leading to who knows where (Narnia, perhaps? The Lion, the Witch and the Parade Float?). Cinderella’s ball played out in animatronics while you stand (or dance–trust me, it’s much better if you dance) under fake Wysteria flowers while the local love ballad station plays on the radio?

It’s all these little things (or giant ones in some cases) that make roadside attractions so strangely magical and truly unforgettable.

American Celebration on Parade will always hold a special place in our hearts.

P.S. If you make it to Shenandoah Caverns, try to mount the Brontosaurus. It’s harder than it looks.
